Blender Barrel and Wrest Point
I created a basic wooden barrel in blender following a youtube tutorial.
Here is that tutorial:
And here is a picture of the barrel I designed in Blender:
Getting the hang of Blender is difficult, but I'm getting it slowly. Learning the hotkeys has proven tricky but I'm progressing on that front. I'm sure as I continue producing objects it will become easier. With respect to the barrel, the modelling side of things was the most intuitive part of this entire project, I found - I struggled with the texturing far more, but got it in the end. All in all, creating this barrel was an excellent learning experience!
After this, I went to google for inspiration for a landmark in Hobart that would present some modelling challenge without being too difficult. In the end I settled on Wrest Point (the tower in particular).

Above is an image of the Wrest Point tower: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrest_Point_Hotel_Casino, and here are a couple of images of the respective model I made in Blender.

The creation process of this model was far smoother than the barrel. I think this was due to my being able to choose my own methods for accomplishing things along with increased comfort in using the program. I also enjoyed using Blender to create an object of my own choosing more than following a tutorial. The end result of this project turned out a lot better than I expected and I'm glad to see my abilities improving.
